Celebrating Christmas in the South (or anywhere else?) this year? Jekyll Island transforms into "Holly Jolly Jekyll" through January 1st, and is a great place families to spread the Christmas Spirit.
Bring the kids, and your best camera, cause you never know when the perfect holiday photo op will present itself.
Christmas Tree Lighting & Merry Shimpmas -
Holly Jolly Jekyll kicks off in November with a very special festival - Merry Shrimpmas! This festival is a one-time event. Hurricane Irma did a number on Jekyll Island. The storm was responsible for wide-spread damage throughout the area, as well as the canceling of many events. The 2017 Shrimp and Grits Festival, Jekyll Island's largest event, was one such casualty.
Merry Shrimpmas will combine the best of Shrimp & Grits with the Christmas season in an effort to support local businesses in Irma's aftermath. Come enjoy shrimp and grits dishes, live music on 2 stages, an artists' exhibit, kids' zone, and more - and take the opportunity to explore island shops for unique Christmas gifts for your friends and loved ones!
The Christmas Tree Lighting will be a part of Merry Shrimpmas this year and will be held in November, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Merry Shrimpmas is just the first of many fun events happening on the island during the holidays.
And don't forget to take the kids to visit Santa at the Skeet House for Story Time with Santa. Be there, too, when Santa lights the Jekyll Island Christmas Tree.
There's never been a more special Christmas in the South!
festival fun starts Friday, Nov. 24: 2-8 p.m. and runs through
Saturday, Nov. 25: 10 a.m.-8 p.m. The lighting of the Christmas tree and fireworks finale is at 7:30 PM. Admission to the festival is free, although some activities may require a small fee. The Jekyll Island parking fee will be increased by $4.00 (daily and weekly passes) for this event.
It's a perfect sendoff for Christmas in the South.
