It's football season - where the flames of bitter college rivalries are fanned anew each year.
And - it's time for the Georgia Florida Golf Classic, one of the longest lasting dust-ups between two SEC schools, and a fitting appetizer to the Georgia Florida football game.

Whether you love to chase that little dimpled white ball around acres of beautiful countryside, or just come to relax and enjoy the show, the Georgia Florida Golf Classic is a fantastic sporting event - one of the best special events on Jekyll Island.
And maybe the longest continuous sporting event, now well into 3 decades.
The Classic is 2 rounds held over 2 days (see the Jekyll Island Events Spotlight for current dates) and played on 3 golf courses - Oleander, Indian Mounds, and Pine Lakes. Team registration is $300 (register on-line at

Fans and players are welcomed on Wednesday evening with a Cocktail Party at the Morgan Center, where players and their spouse or date can enjoy food and drinks prepared by area chefs, and live music and entertainment.
Thursday night, join the fun at the evening Low Country Boil (again at the Morgan Center). Golfers can take in live entertainment while snarfing down delectable shrimp, corn on the cob, potatoes, and other Southern cuisine till they're fit to bust.
Bulldog Roast - Oyster Roast, That Is!
Then, on Friday, head on over to the UGA Alumni Oyster Roast at Great Dunes Park. Tickets for this event are not included with the registration fee for the tourney. Entry is free, but you have to buy tickets for the buffet, oysters and brew tasting.
Relax and enjoy the oysters while generating a head of team spirit heading into the Georgia Florida football game!
This event starts at 5:00 and goes to 8:00. Bulldog fans and alumni can get
Staying on St. Simons Island? Cruise to Jekyll Island with Jekyll Island Dolphin Tours and Coastal Kitchen. They're providing a Brew Cruise to the Oyster Roast.
Tickets include a pre-Roast Cocktail Hour at Coastal Kitchen from 4:00 - 4:45 PM. Then, jump on their boat for a trip to the Jekyll Island Historic Wharf, where waiting shuttles will take guests to the Oyster Roast. The return boat trip will launch at 8:15 PM. Tickets are $45. In the case of inclement weather, shuttle buses will take guests to and from Coastal Kitchen
