Jekyll Island hotels are family-oriented, but for some reason my family has never had the privilege of staying at the Beachview Club (probably because, when our kids were growing up and I was going to the University of Georgia and working odd jobs to make a living, we took the cheapest accommodations we could find).
I've gone by the Beachview Club plenty of times, in cars and on bikes or on foot. It's the smallest hotel on Jekyll, situated on one of the most beautiful sites on the island. It overlooks the sea, and was lovingly fitted within a cluster of old-growth live oaks, draped with beards of Spanish moss. These stately trees have figured prominently in the many weddings booked here over the years.
Usually on our biking treks we find time to pedal over to the Beachview Club. Tired and sweaty, we'll walk our bikes to where the hotel has thoughtfully placed several chairs under the grandfather oaks, facing the ocean. We'll relax here for a bit, enjoying the cool shadows cast by the trees, and the sea breeze in our faces, until we've recuperated enough to continue our ride.
Many times we've watched their staff setting up for a wedding or event, carefully placing tables laced with table clothes and adorned with silver and china place settings under the spreading limbs of the live oaks. Other times we've enjoyed (from a distance) watching wonderfully choreographed wedding ceremonies unfolding before us.
Unlike some of the other Jekyll Island hotels, we can't make a personal recommendation based on experience. But even though we've never stayed at the Beachview Club, the thoughtful attention to detail that we've witnessed, in the service of their guests, is the epitome of hospitality. We think you'd like it here.
Among Jekyll Island hotels, the Beachview Club is known for its Event Planning services. They'll help you plan your wedding, anniversary, business meeting, or family reunion - or gladly accommodate your group for most any special occasion.
Your family will love the friendly, laid-back atmosphere here. The fact that the Beachview Club is owned by a family - Jimmy and Linda Veal - likely contributes to their success.
The Beachview Club has 38 rooms in a two-story building, most of which front the ocean. You can book rooms opening on the ocean or courtyard that have either private patios (first floor), or balconys (second floor). Rooms offer either efficiency kitchenettes or full sized kitchens.
As of this writing, rooms range from a around $119 low-season rate (December through February) to a high-season $169 (June through August) for a King Efficiency, which has a king bed, to $199 low-season and $259 high-season for their Grand Luxury Suite (featuring a king bed, hot tub, and gas fireplace).
If you want a little more privacy, the Executive Suite has one bedroom with a queen bed, a sleeper sofa in a separate sitting room, a full kitchen and gas fireplace. This suite is $169 low-season ($229 high).
I try to keep these pages updated, but please, always call ahead to check current prices. To book your room, call Jimmy Dunn at 1-800-299-2228 or (912)635-2256. Ask about their Special Event room rates. Or check out their website for up-to-date pricing and availability.
