Motor Up to the Jekyll Island Wharf - Just Like Millionaire J.P. Morgan!
This is an experience you owe to yourself. Rent a boat for the evening, and, as the sun is setting, casting the Jekyll River in fiery reds and oranges, make a slow approach to the historic Jekyll Island Wharf. Tie up here, and disembark with the family.
Tread the same boards that J.P. Morgan and other Jekyll Island Club millionaires walked upon on their way to the Jekyll Island Club. Old J.P. used to anchor his yacht 'Corsair II' in the Jekyll River, and have himself brought over to Jekyll in his ship's boat. A cannon would signal his arrival. Morgan was then escorted to shore by a flotilla of small craft.
At this Jekyll Island marina, you'll walk up the pier to the Wharf proper, passing shrimp boats, excursion ships, and private craft on your way to the famous Historic District. If you're hungry, you can dine at Latitude 31 seafood restaurant, which sits directly atop the Wharf.
Latitude 31, which used to be a warehouse for supplies and ice in J.P.'s time, has a perfect view of the Inter Coastal Waterway. Come for the awesome seafood, stay for the awesome sunsets!
You can dine inside, or, if you're into the waterside ambiance, out on the covered Wharf itself. The Jekyll Island Wharf is also home to the
Jekyll Island Wharf
Rah Bar , famous for their shellfish and Wild Georgia Shrimp. There are also some great live bands that entertain here.
Right across from the Wharf is the Jekyll Island Club Hotel, with their fine Grand Dining Room restaurant. Walk the Historic District and pretend to be a millionaire, out for a breath of fresh air. The Courtyard at the Crane restaurant is located just down from the Jekyll Island Club Hotel. Try it for great food and a refined dining experience.
Hungry for fresh Wild Georgia Shrimp? During the season, 'PaPa's Boat' sells shrimp at the dock, fresh from the water.
Boat Accommodations -
The Wharf has 435' of outside docking space, with a 3' depth at low tide. Island side docking space is 380', but these slips are mostly dry at low tide.
This is not a full service marina. There's no gas dock. If you want a berth overnight, try the Jekyll Harbor Marina, just down the Intra Coastal Waterway.
The Wharf also features a gift shop featuring metal art from a local artist, Tyler Doniney, and Shark Tooth necklaces crafted by Captain Jamie Bracewell. Each necklace is hand made from shark's teeth found in the area (maybe from Shark's Tooth Beach).
Looking for adventure? You can book Dolphin Tours and Fishing Excursions (both off shore and in shore) that depart from the Jekyll Wharf Marina. Call 912-635-3152 for more info.
Dockage Rates -
Slips come with access to potable water, and
electricity at the Dock Masters discretion. Be aware, though, that island-side dockage at the Wharf is high and dry at low tide, so plan accordingly.
