Jekyll Island hosts so many wonderfully eclectic events, celebrations and festivals - all suitable for the entire family - that it's hard to keep up with them all. That's what this page is all about. It's our goal to update the Event Spotlight three months out, or as soon as the Jekyll Island Authority schedules an event and sets a date. We try to keep on top of things, but sometimes might miss something. If you have an inquiry about an upcoming event, please shoot us a message.

Jekyll Island Cross Country Invitational and Open 5k

5K race will be held at the Great Dunes Golf Course, north of the Convention Center. Starting at 7 AM, there will be an open race for the public, then the high school races. Proceeds benefit the Brunswick High School and Glynn Academy cross country programs. 912.223.2286; 7:00am-12:00pm.

Visit Horton Pond and learn about the biology, behavior, and conservation of our friend, the alligator. Merry Shrimpmas & Christmas Tree Lighting Festival

Come to the Jekyll Island Historic District and partake of the festival atmosphere. Merry Shrimpmas is a one-time scaled-down version of Jekyll Island's Shrimp and Grits Festival, which was canceled this year due to Hurricane Irma. Eat shrimp and grits dishes prepared by area restaurants, listen to great music on 2 stages, and more! Santa will be there to light the tree and read stories to kids (plus pose for group photos).

Holidays in History

This ongoing event is a classic. Bring the family and enjoy Christmas on Jekyll Island. Marvel at the tour of cottages in the Historic District, all dressed up in their holiday finery. Ice skating on Jekyll Island? Close. The surface is synthetic, but the experience is like gliding on ice. Located at North Dunes Park off Beachview, you can enjoy skating by the sea on this outdoor venue. Monday through Thursday, 3:00 - 9:00 pm. Friday through Sunday, 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. $5.00 for skates and a 30 min. session.

Island Treasures

Ever wanted to find treasure? Jekyll Island gives you the opportunity during the two month Island Treasures event. Every day through January and February, Jekyll Island "Beach Buddies" hide a plethora of replica glass fishing globes. These one-or-a-kind treasures (crafted by artists from all over the U.S.) can be hidden anywhere on the island. Find an orb, you get to keep it! Register your treasure at the Jekyll Island Visitor Center and receive a certificate of authenticity and an artist biography.

If you're into running, or like to watch top-notch athletes do their thing, come join the fun at the Jekyll Island Marathon. This is a full 26.2 mile run. Three authors, three books - all written about sea turtles! "Scute's Ocean Adventure", by Lori Hunt, a children's book based on the popular puppet show; "Thalassia’s Story", by Lynn Wilcox, about the recovery of an injured green sea turtle; and "Jekyll Island’s Treasured Recipes", by Dorothy Carswell, featuring dishes from JI residents. Georgia Sea Turtle Center Behind-the-Scenes Tour

Check out your turtle friends from the other side of the Treatment Window with these behind the scenes tours. Visit the Treatment Room, Radiology, Surgery suite and more! Tours are guided by a knowledgeable staff member and let you get up close and personal with sea turtles and terrapins. Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. $22 per person gets you the tour plus admission to the center. Call 912.635.3636 for more details.

Become a sea turtle biologist for a night! Join Georgia Sea Turtle Center staff and patrol Jekyll Island's beaches for sea turtle activity. A fantastic hands-on learning adventure!

Summer Gatorology 101

Visit Horton Pond and learn about the biology, behavior, and conservation of our friend, the alligator. Discover common misconceptions about these ancient reptiles and learn about ongoing alligator research on Jekyll Island and how it enables alligators and humans to live together. $15 plus tax, FREE for children 3 and under price includes GSTC general admission. 3rd of July Fireworks

Put on your Pirate Pyrotechnic hats and come enjoy the most spectacular fireworks on the coast of Georgia. The best views are from the beach between the Holiday Inn Resort and south to the Days Inn, on the island’s oceanfront side. Fireworks start around 9 p.m.

Independence Day Parade

Break out the red, white and blue bunting and balloons and deck out your bikes, golf carts, Redbugs, strollers and pets for the Independence Day Parade, to be held from 9:00 to 10:00 in the Historic District. Who knows, you could win a ribbon!
